Erythrocyte sedimentation

The erythrocyte sedimentation reaction is an unspecific screening procedure, when an inflammable reaction is suspected and for assessing its course. During an inflammatory event, the plasma concentration of acute-phase proteins, fibrinogen and immunoglobulins increases, resulting in an accelerated erythrocyte sedimentation reaction.
