Laboratory accreditation

The international standard NF EN ISO 15189 defines requirements with regard to quality and competence in medical laboratories.

The accreditation of the cytology database requires the assessment of the staff skills. The chapters 5.1.2.d (Skills Evaluation) indicate:

“Laboratory management shall maintain records of the relevant educational and professional qualifications, training and experience, and competence of all laboratory personnel.
This information shall be readily available to relevant personnel, and may include:
h) Records of continuing education and achievements.”


Digital quality control for blood cell differentiation

HORIBA Medical, our partner for many years, has developed an innovative solution accessible for all laboratories for monitoring blood cell differentiation which complies with the standard and requirements.

The QSP software is an intuitive and didactic tool with high-resolution imaging. It offers the laboratory staff the option to examine blood films which are scanned and appraised beforehand. The software allows the laboratory to assess the ability of employees in the laboratory to correctly identify individual WBC populations and other identifiable elements.



Scope of QSP 2.0 software

  • The QSP program includes the annual download of 12 monthly campaigns from 6 different e-smear cases (normal or abnormal).
  • The e-smear cases are existing cases from laboratories around the world and present a great diversity of pathologies.
  • Identifications of cells have been validated by experts in blood cell morphology.
  • Each lab manager establishes a control protocol and chooses the slides to be analysed by the team in charge of the slide review.
  • The number of reviewers is unlimited.
  • The QSP program issues customised reports to ensure perfect traceability.


How the HORIBA QSP works

The lab manager receives the cases for the education and training in manual blood cell differentiation as digitalised slides and

  • validates the preclassified cells
  • keeps or removes cells in the preclassification
  • chooses the virtual slides to be released for lab personnel review


Tasks of the lab personnel according to the laboratory process:

  • Examination of the selected cases, supervised by the lab manager
  • Classification of all the cells (100 cells minimum)
  • Extension of the examination of the entire blood film and addition of comments (RBC, WBC, PLT)
  • Validation of the classification for an individual report


Once the blood smears are differentiated and assessed by the lab personnel, a full report is generated by the lab manager. This report includes a summary of the responses from the different lab reviewers and the analysis of continuous improvement.

Option 1 : Single licence

Licence for one computer (1 PC)

Single computer licence associated with a particular computer (PC) via a licence file (software dongle, no physical USB dongle). Local installation of the QSP program with blood smear.



Option 2 :Site licence

Licence for up to 10 computers at the same time (10 PC)

The site licence can be used at the same time on multiple computers on which QSP is installed and managed. QSP is NOT a network database, that is, it is not a common database with integrated reports or automated installation of QSP on a computer in the network.
