Sepsis - a medical emergency with serious consequences
Sepsis is the most severe phase of an infectious disease – one that can develop from any infectious source. It can be produced by viruses, bacteria, fungi or parasites and affect patients of any age. 1
It's global incidence is high, with sepsis linked to roughly 1 of every 5 deaths. An estimated 48.9 million patients contract sepsis each year, making it one of the most common diseases.2
When sepsis occurs, diagnosing and treating the disease as quickly as possible is essential.
