The SIRscan ORION from i2a for the detection of antibiotic resistance is a fully automated all-rounder: incubation, reading and automatic interpretation from a single source. This is the efficient and cost-effective way to achieve the optimal therapy for antibiotic resistance.

ESBL, MRSA, carbapenemases: Bacteria mutate and evolve until they can become insensitive to the latest antibiotics. This so-called antibiotic resistance can be life-threatening or even mortal if the commonly used antibiotics are no longer effective. The cause of resistance can be, for example, incorrect or too frequent use of antibiotics. A fast and accurate determination of antibiotic resistance is therefore extremely important for the treatment of infectious diseases.
Devices such as the SIRscan ORION help us in this and also in the global attempt to contain antibiotic-resistant bacteria. It is a constant sprint between their developments and our research. The most comprehensive and relevant resistance detection possible is a win-win for the hospital world.
The SIRscan devices and middleware
With the SIRscan ORION and LYNX antibiogram readers, you can compile your own antibiotic tests, either as an initial test or as an additional test to detect specific resistance mechanisms or specially selected antibiotics. Regardless of the germ, the right antibiotics can be tested with the two devices. The LYNX is ORION's little brother, a semi-automatic micro reader.

The embedded middleware SIRxpert has a global expert system based on i2a's 30 years of experience in microbiology and hundreds of annual customer feedbacks in most European countries. They are based on the Kirby-Bauer reference technique and allow EUCAST recommendations to be followed closely and disseminated easily. The SIRxpert middleware is complemented by numerous modules, such as MS ports, AST microdilution ports, PCR ports, epidemiology, etc.
i2a and Axonlab
For more than 10 years, i2a and Axonlab have been actively working together in numerous European countries. This synergy of innovation and know-how has made the previous generation of automated machines a standard in the field of antibiogram expertise, and the new, more advanced SIRxpert range will adapt perfectly to customers' needs and workflow.
