Supporting a humanitarian organization or project on the African continent is a long-standing tradition at Axonlab. In this way, we support organisations and projects that play an important role in improving healthcare and daily life with passion and great dedication.

With the acquisition of the South African company Separation Scientific, Axonlab has also been operating in the Sub-Saharan region since this year. In other words, this year we can make a contribution right on spot through our local subsidiary. We do this by participating in the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) programme.

Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) is a South African government policy designed to address the economic inequalities for formerly disadvantaged citizens in South Africa. Its goal is to promote inclusive economic growth through greater ownership, management representation, skills development, enterprise support, and employment opportunities for historically disadvantaged groups.Companies are assessed and rated on their B-BBEE performance, and a higher rating can improve access to government contracts and business opportunities. Ultimately, B-BBEE aims to create a more equitable and representative economy while fostering long-term socio-economic development.

By getting involved on the ground with the B-BBEE initiative, we are supporting individual projects and contributing to greater economic equality and long-term social change.

By implementing the YES Programme as part of B-BBEE we are offering the opportunity to 28 unemployed young people who started work from 1 November 2026.

Purpose of the YES Programme
The purpose of the YES (Youth Employment Service) Programme is to contribute towards addressing youth unemployment in South Africa by providing unemployed young people with a structured 12-month quality workplace experience. The programme enables participants to gain practical skills, workplace exposure and valuable experience that can enhance their future employability and career prospects, while enabling participating organizations to contribute meaningfully towards youth development and economic inclusion.

  • Create employment opportunities for unemployed youth through structured 12-month quality work experiences with participating businesses.
  • Provide practical workplace experience, helping young people bridge the gap between education and employment and build skills that improve their future employability.
  • Develop South Africa's future workforce, including future skilled professionals, managers and entrepreneurs.
  • Encourage businesses to participate in youth employment creation. Companies participating in YES may qualify for B-BBEE recognition benefits, subject to meeting the relevant programme requirements.
  • Promote economic inclusion by enabling young people to earn income, develop workplace skills and establish a track record of employment.

Another project of B-BBEE we participated in this year, is the Rise Against Hunger Initiative. The event took place on October 21st, 2026 at the Axonlab office in Johannesburg. We had 33 employee volunteers who assisted in packing +/-6000 dried food packages for underprivilege children.

As part of our commitment to social responsibility and community upliftment, employees had the opportunity to participate in the Rise Against Hunger initiative. The programme brings volunteers together to package nutritious meals that support food-insecure communities. Through participation in initiatives such as this, we can contribute towards addressing hunger while supporting nutrition, education and stronger communities.

Rise Against Hunger is a global humanitarian initiative focused on improving food security and long-term resilience in vulnerable communities. Its work centers on three interconnected areas: nutrition, education, and economic empowerment.

The initiative aims to:

  • Address hunger and food insecurity by providing nutritious meals to people and communities in need.
  • Support children's education, including meal programmes that help provide children with nutrition while they attend school.
  • Mobilise volunteers and corporate partners through meal-packaging events, where volunteers package nutritious meals for distribution to food-insecure communities.
  • Promote longer-term food security through economic empowerment, local food systems and support for farmers and entrepreneurs

As third initiative, we support a project in a educational environment: Kau Primary School – Grade 7 Career Day in Collaboration with the University of South Africa.

As part of our ongoing commitment to community development and supporting young learners, the company was proud to contribute to Kau Primary School’s Grade 7 Career Day in collaboration with UNISA.

Our contribution included a donation towards school clothing and school shoes for the learners, helping to address practical needs while supporting their educational journey.

The Career Day also provided learners with valuable exposure to further education and future career opportunities. A representative from UNISA delivered an informative career talk, introducing learners to different study and career pathways.

The learners were further introduced to the exciting world of science and biomedical research through interactive experimental demonstrations. These hands-on activities were designed to spark curiosity, encourage participation, and inspire learners to consider future careers in science and related fields.

Through initiatives such as this, the Company is proud to contribute not only to the immediate needs of learners, but also to opportunities that encourage education, career awareness and future development.
