Swiss Health Authority announces Deadline Extension for Troponin Offsets

Conventional measurement methods miss about 20 to 40 percent of cases (false negatives) in the diagnosis of myocardial infarction without suggestive electrocardiographic signs. The guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology state that troponin should be measured using sensitive measurement methods due to their better diagnostic performance.

The FOPH therefore recommends the measurement of high-sensitivity troponin also in practice laboratories and wanted to reimburse only this measurement method from January 1, 2024.

Currently, only a few manufacturers across Europe offer measurement of high-sensitivity troponin with the required studies and approvals on POCT laboratory systems.

Due to the current situation, the FOPH has announced a deadline extension for troponin billing. From November 1, 2023 until December 31, 2024, 2 tariff lines will be used for troponin billing:

  • Troponin I /T:   Pos: 1734.01     TP 29.10
  • hsTroponin:     Pos: 1778.01     TP 43.70

The extension of the deadline gives providers the opportunity to complete outstanding studies and obtain necessary approvals.

Axonlab already offers you an approved solution for the highly sensitive troponin with the Pathfast Analyzer. In addition, we are working at full speed on the introduction of another hs-troponin test in combination with an innovative platform.
